Senior Attorney
Our client oversees asset management for many of it's parent company's operating companies as well as third party clients. Asset classes include public bonds, private placements, commercial mortgage loans, derivatives and alternative investments. Significant funds are invested in nearly every fixed income and real estate sector. The Asset Management organization has operations in Europe, the United States and Asia. Primary offices in the United States are located in Iowa and Kentucky.
The person in this position should have experience as a practicing attorney with a demonstrated knowledge of low-income housing tax credits, corporate law, tax law and commercial real estate transactions. The position works under some supervision from the assistant general counsel. For new investments, this individual will coordinate with members of the legal team, outside counsel and the Community Investments acquisition teams and sale teams (unguaranteed and guaranteed transactions), obtain and review due diligence information (including tax and environmental matters), review documents and facilitate closings of equity investments. For existing investments, this individual will work with the Community Investments asset management and in-house accounting teams as well as outside counsel regarding a variety of issues including capital contributions, changes in partnership structure and transfers of limited partnership interests. Extensive document review, with some drafting and correspondence responsibilities.
SKILLS: Job-Related Qualifications: * Ability to provide quality legal services, based on experience, while working in a fast paced environment. *Ability to handle heavy workload in efficient manner. Demonstrate project tracking and prioritization to manage multiple projects with shifting priorities, including status reporting and appropriate follow up. *Demonstrate sound business judgment in combination with legal analysis. *Ability to work successfully in a team environment. Able to develop rapport with others and recognize their concerns and adapt to varying customer needs; build and maintain long-term associations based on trust. *Travel occasionally required. *Strong written and oral communication skills. *Good PC skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE JD required. 5-8 years transactional legal experience required. 2-5 years experience in affordable housing and commercial real estate preferred.
