Pavement Design and Material Engineer - Reno, NV

GENERAL SUMMARY:

This position is accountable for collaboration with business units to develop value engineering opportunities focused on pavements and materials. This position requires an advanced course of study and the consistent exercise of discretion and judgment in analyzing and interpreting information before making reasoned recommendations to project management.

MUST BE REGISTERED PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER


ESSENTIAL JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Provide technical support to project management staff to identify economical pre- and post-bid project construction and material alternatives.

  • Develop internal tools to rapidly evaluate construction and material alternatives for cost and environmental impact on a first cost and life cycle cost basis.

  • Collaborate with the Asphalt & Energy, Environmental, Construction Materials, Quality Management and Equipment Groups on Green Construction.

  • Develop a metric which defines project and company value for reporting to senior management.

  • Support project management and business development staff with pavement preservation program development and implementation.

  • Actively represent Company interests at/with agency and industry related forums, meetings and associations.

  • Provide value engineering related training for Project Managers/Engineers and other project management staff.

  • Participate in and promote Granite’s safety procedures to promote a safe working environment.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • BS in Civil Engineering or related field required.
  • MS in Civil Engineering desired.
  • Registered Professional Engineer required.
  • 10+ years technical experience with concentration in pavement design.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

 

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

  • Technical knowledge of transportation materials and construction concepts.

  • Proficient with standard and advanced pavement design methods.

  • Proficient with database operations and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • High degree of peer and industry credibility.

  • Self-motivated.

  • Training skill


ADDITIONAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Ability to travel.
  • Current driver’s license
